LIC Water Stain

"Long Island City Water Stain" is an art project that explores the emerging community of Long Island City in New York. This neighborhood is known for its cleanliness, and a fresh atmosphere. However, I have noticed unidentified liquids on the streets that leave behind distinctive water stain. These water stain sometimes resemble abstract art without a clear pattern, while other times they exhibit a hidden order. They appear on corners, memorial columns, and other elevated man-made structures within the Long Island City community, adding a unique visual texture to the neighborhood. I consider these water stain as an unofficial form of artistic expression, silently engaging in a dialogue with the community residents. My project aims to capture these water stain through photography and present viewers with a visual experience of discovery. By choosing to shoot at night using flashes of light, I create contrasting light and shadow effects to emphasize the presence of these water marks. Through the lens of art, I hope to invite viewers to see these often overlooked details and reexamine the environment they inhabit.
